Does the application Search & Replace handle formats like Quark or InDesign?
Hi Chris.r! Unfortunately, it does not work with either QuarkXpress or InDesign. In fact, it allows you to apply changes in InDesign, but once you try to close the Search & Replace windows it warns you that the saved changes might not let you open the file again.
Search & Replace is a magic tool to make massive or selective changes in all MS Office formats and even in more complex files like Trados TTXs.
Hi Chris! I am back as I've realized I've put too much emphasis in the execution/implementation of changes. However, you can certainly use this tool as an aid for the diagnosis and later control within the implementation process.
How does that work? Once again, only with InDesign files, and you might put all files together within a certain folder, select that folder and look up one word/term. The window will show you a list of all occurrences that you can later export/save as a TXT file that you can convert into CSV and open with Excel. Otherwise, you always have the chance to open the TXT file with Notepad or alike.
Once you are done implementing the changes straight on the InDesign files, you can later use Search & Replace to run a control test and see that there are no leftovers.
One more tip...and mainly for Quark files, you still have the chance to open the Quark, print a PDF, convert it later into MS Word and run the diagnostic search on this editable MS Word files.
Thanks for all this feedback, gentle.
