', how can I translate the following sentence?

. Cuando se hiere la plancha de metal, ésta se abre levantando una milimétrica rebaba a ambos lados de la incisión

My attempt:
. When the metal plate is scratched, this one is opened raising one millimetric rough edge to both sides of the incision

if you're not sure of the exact effect of the (drypoint) on the metal plate, maybe "damaged" is a little bit safer. But scratched sounds good to me too.

I'd go simply with "damaged" is the most neutral word... in my opinion...
