The original sentence:
Por otro lado aparece cartografiado el supuesto estrecho centroamericano
My attempt:
1 - On the other hand it appears mapped the supposed Central American straits that separates North America from South America
2 - On the other hand the supposed Central American straits that separates North America from South America appears mapped
I don't like either, so I need a little help from my friends

I think another possibility is chart... I looked it up in google in different contexts and compared it to map.
I found out that when refering to a country or an island it is most frequently used the verb map. While for straits, it appears more frequently the word chart.

Clara is right. Land is usually mapped and waters are charted.
Can you provide the context of the sentence?

The sentence reads: On the other hand the supposed Central American strait appears, or seems (to be) mapped (or charted).
My question is what "strait" is being referred to here? An estrecho can be a narrow arm of the sea or a narrow passage between mountains. Since you inserted "...that separates North America from South America..." I wonder if it refers to the waters or the land mass of Central America.

it refers to Central America, but I suppose it can be both, land or water...
