I do not speak Spanish, but I can understand bits of it. I used Google translate to read your response, so bear with me!

I will have to try the virtual machine soon, but this will be highly unpractical, I imagine...
I cannot use another CAT tool because the projects I am working on involve (most of the time) a team of French translators. We cannot afford to use different CAT tools/TMs. I think incompatibility issues would arise...

I did not try the virtual machine, as it would have been too much of a hassle. Fortunately, I managed to have my client send me file-based TMs.
That allowed us to work together for a few weeks, and then my client migrated their Trados 2007 TMs to Studio, which does not pose any incompatibility issues with Windows 8.1.

So the problem was not solved, but it is not a problem anymore
