I think the best softwares are those that extract the text from the original files, work in a different environment and place the text back into the original format (MemoQ, Deja Vu X, OmegaT, SDLX, etc). Microsoft Word add-ons are too limited specially if you need to handle other kind of formats beside Word. They might cause stability issues as well.
