What is "laqueacion" in the surgical context?
Hello,
An article discussing aneurysm repair contains the term "laqueacion," as used in the following sentence:
Sera efectuada laqueacion de la arteria iliaca interna por via endoaneurismatica, laqueacion de la fistula del aneurisma iliaco-ureteral y nefrectomia iaquierda.
Does anyone have an appropriate translation for this term in this context?

I researched this word on Google and did not find much... except for a couple of books. The first one from 1638 (I know!), A treatise of the first part of chirurgerie, called by mee sunthetike ̄ ... By Alexander Read, where he refers to "laqueation" as dry stitch (pp. 50, 53 and 54). The second one from 1743, Colloquia chirurgica: or, The art of surgery epitomiz'd and made easy ... By James Handley, defines a variant: "lequeatio" as dry stitching also (pp. 90-91). Obviously at some point in History this was the medical term, but why can't it be found in modern literature? Simply fascinating!

It might be talking about some sort of way of stitching as it mentions a fistula (connection) between the artery and the urethra. Also, it there is an endovascular approach, you sure need to clamp the artery or find a way to keep the blood flow off the area (therefore, dry stitching sounds right). Repairing an aneurysm is basically done using two different techniques: clipping or coiling.
